Here local craftsmen are able to pursue their artistic talents and market their products as the Centre serves as
a craft co-operative for the community. If you've never seen paper made out of papyrus, tree bark or elephant
dung, now's your chance. Resident paper-maker Lucky Mphofu, will be glad to explain the process and show
you around the production unit. The finished product is beautifully textured paper which makes an ideal photo
album, journal or scrap-book. Hand made post cards are another product popular with tourists and locals alike.
The pottery section under the direction of Esther Mphorisa produces attractive examples of a Botswana craft
that is both distinctive and functional, and if you happen to be there on a Tuesday evening, you can join in the
adult pottery class and learn a few tricks of the trade. Many Okavango lodges have their distinctive crockery
designed and manufactured here.
Artist-in-residence Kealeboga's paintings can often be viewed, until they are sold, on the gallery walls, and
the artist himself is regularly at work. Wire-work is another medium which has proved immensely popular
Chris and Godfrey continue to amaze.
The Crafty Centre is, in short, a hub of creative activity one can never be sure what one will find there;
whatever it is, however, it draws visitors and locals alike and seldom fails to generate a Wow! response.
